Resident Evil Requiem Story DLC Announced Following Five Million Sales Milestone
Capcom has confirmed that story DLC is in development for Resident Evil Requiem, which has sold over five million copies since launching on February 27. Director Koshi Nakanishi also announced that a photo mode and mystery minigame will arrive in May, with the story expansion coming at a later date.
Resident Evil Requiem is receiving story DLC, director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed in a video message posted to social media on March 10, 2026. The announcement comes as the latest entry in Capcom's survival horror franchise celebrates selling over five million copies in less than two weeks since its February 27 launch.
In the video message, Nakanishi expressed gratitude to players for the game's overwhelming reception while outlining the development team's post-launch content roadmap. The story expansion, currently in production, will "delve deeper into the world of Requiem," though Nakanishi cautioned that the DLC "will take some time" to complete.
"We are planning to make extra story content," Nakanishi said in his message. "In this story, we will delve deeper into the world of Requiem. We're hard at work on it now. It will take some time, so we ask for your patience and hope you'll look forward to it."
The story DLC announcement follows an established pattern for recent Resident Evil titles. Both Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village received substantial story expansions after their initial releases, suggesting Capcom has found success with this post-launch content strategy.
Beyond the story expansion, Nakanishi revealed several nearer-term additions to Requiem. A photo mode, which has become a frequently requested feature among players, is currently in development. The director also announced plans to introduce a minigame sometime in May 2026, though specific details about this content remain under wraps.
"First, the much-awaited photo mode," Nakanishi explained. "On top of that, there's another surprise coming around May. We're planning to add a mini game. We hope to continue providing support on Resident Evil Requiem to live up to its positive reception."
The development team is also continuing to address technical issues. Nakanishi confirmed that additional performance patches and bug fixes are in the pipeline following an update released shortly after launch. "We released an update the other day to fix a variety of issues, and we will continue to address any other bugs and performance issues," he stated.
During the video presentation, Nakanishi comedically flipped through several mock promotional images before revealing the story DLC announcement. These included a James Bond-style romance adventure titled "Forbidden Requiem" featuring protagonist Leon and an obscured female character, a "Biohazard Requiem DLC" image with Grace and Leon's heads replaced by cats, and a scene showing the game's villain Victor Gideon at a poker table in a style reminiscent of games like Buckshot Roulette or Inscryption. While these images generated excitement among some fans, they appear to be humorous throwaways rather than genuine content teases.
Resident Evil Requiem follows protagonists Grace and Leon through what critics have praised as a terrifying adventure. The game's critical and commercial success represents a significant win for Capcom, with the five million sales milestone achieved in just 13 days placing it among the fastest-selling entries in the long-running franchise.
The announcement of story DLC extends Requiem's lifecycle and gives fans reason to return to the game in the coming months. While Nakanishi did not provide a release window for the story expansion beyond noting it would "take some time," the May minigame and photo mode updates offer more immediate content for players who have completed the base game.
Capcom has not yet revealed pricing details for the upcoming story DLC or whether it will be part of a season pass structure. As development continues, fans of Grace and Leon's adventure will be waiting to learn more about how the expansion will expand upon Requiem's narrative and world.
